Reporting to the Dean of Learning Resources, this position will coordinate activities of the Writing Center at all campuses. The Writing Center Coordinator position is responsible for providing and overseeing individual and group, online, and in-person, synchronous professional coaching services for students, specifically with the goal of developing and improving English language communication skills. The Coordinator will be responsible for the supervision and training of writing coaches and will be the primary administrator for the center. The Coordinator may be required to provide writing feedback and instruction to students in individual appointments and occasionally in small groups. The Coordinator will maintain quality control over the instruction provided by the professional writing coaches, act as a liaison to instructors in order to assist them with incorporating writing assignments, writing assessments, and Writing Center integration into their courses. The Coordinator will orchestrate and organize data collection and reporting for Institutional and State requirements, manage the budget and schedule of the Writing Center, maintain daily operations, and participate in presenting writing- and research-related workshops across the curriculum.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must be available as needed to meet with Writing Center students individually and in small groups and select or develop instructional materials to meet students needs.
- Supervise staff during daily operations.
- Ensure accurate and high-quality data collection occurs during daily operations (appointment requests, post-session reports, sign-in records, etc.)
- Deliver presentations to academic classes and student groups.
- Refer student clients to additional College services when necessary.
- Schedule and coordinate staff meetings.
- Participate in ongoing review and improvement of Writing Center services.
- Serve as a resource on writing for the Writing Coaches and the College community.
- Keep records for Full-Time Equivalency (FTE) reports and collate this information into end-of-semester Excel reports for submission to the State.
- Manage a schedule of part-time professional Writing Coaches within a set budget.
- Professionally and constructively handle interpersonal interactions.
- Promote student success through engaging learning support services. This may include presenting workshops, delivering classroom presentations, providing direct learning activities, and/or the development of additional academic support.
- Maintains and correctly manages confidential information in accordance with FERPA regulations.
- Provide support for faculty and staff
- Maintain accurate payroll records.
- Maintain accurate student usage reports in the Writing Center at all campuses.
- Maintain a high standard of professionalism in representing the College, including confidentiality, in all aspects of the positions responsibilities and adherence to policies, procedures, and other established guidelines. Work cooperatively with team members and colleagues to the achievement of College goals and strategies. Provide a high level of customer service and maintain effective working relationships and partnerships.
- Attend classes and/or workshops to stay current with topics related to the position.
- Serve on College committees as needed.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work herein described or as assigned by the supervisor.
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution in English or closely related field required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in a writing center or similar support service required.
- Two years of experience in post-secondary education required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) required.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills required.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Community college experience preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Generally, works in a traditional climate-controlled office environment and requires the ability to sit for extended periods.
- Some walking, standing, and bending, with the ability to lift and maneuver items weighing up to 15 pounds required.
- Work environment can be stressful at times in dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines.
- In addition to regular office hours, position may sometimes require overtime and/or evening hours.
