Day Care Aide- Part Time, Temporary, Provisional (Kid Zone: Dean of Students)

SUNY Broome Community College is seeking a caring, reliable, and enthusiastic parttime, temporary, provisional Day Care Aide to support the daily operations of the College's Kid Zone program. This position reports to the Children's Program Supervisor.

SUNY Broome's Kid Zone is an evening and weekend program designed to support student parents while they attend classes, study, meet with faculty, or access other campus services. Located in The Commons, the Kid Zone provides a welcoming, secure, and supervised enrichment space for children approximately ages five (5) to twelve (12). Children will participate in age-appropriate activities, games, reading, technology, and other engaging experiences in a safe and supportive environment. The program serves up to ten (10) children at a time, with participation limited to a maximum of three hours per session.

This grant-funded position is anticipated to continue through May 17, 2027 (with the possibility of extension based on funding).

This appointment is provisional, pending successful completion of the Civil Service testing requirement.

Work schedule:
Monday through Thursday, 5: 15 p.m. to 9: 15 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday, 12: 45 p.m. to 5: 15 p.m.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Assist with daily care routines and monitoring of children's well-being.
Support program activities such as crafts, games, story time, and other educational or recreational programs.
Encourage children's participation, monitor behavior, and assist as needed to ensure a positive and inclusive environment.
Help maintain order, discipline, and safety for all participants and staff.
Prepare activity spaces and ensure rooms remain clean, organized, and wellsupplied.
Participate in required in-service training sessions.
Refer concerns or issues to the Children's Program Supervisor.
Assist with record-keeping and other center operations, as needed.

Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalency.
One year of experience working with children in a child care, early childhood development, or children's recreational program; OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience.
Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship from the employer.
Knowledge of preschool child care practices and techniques.
Basic understanding of first aid.
Ability to build positive relationships with young children.
Ability to maintain order and discipline in a child care setting.
Ability to maintain simple records and perform physically demanding tasks.
Willingness to work in conditions that may involve noise, odors, or other challenging environments.

Additional Information:
The hourly rate for this position is $16.50.
