Position Description:  

The University of Oklahoma College of Law invites applications for a full-time, ranked-renewable term faculty member to teach and supervise students in the OU Legal Clinic beginning in the 2027-2028 academic year.  This non-tenure-track position carries a nine-month academic year appointment.  OU Law seeks to expand the scope of its clinical offerings and has identified several areas of interest, including rural access, transactional law (including small business or economic development), family law (including child advocacy), technology, juvenile justice, and immigration.  OU Law also welcomes creative proposals for clinics in other fields and applications from exceptional candidates with demonstrated expertise in any areas of legal practice.

The successful candidate will provide intensive, practice-based instruction and supervision by teaching the clinics classroom component, supervising students throughout client representation, ensuring compliance with court rules and professional standards, and contributing to the intellectual and service life of the College of Law.

Ranked, renewable-term faculty members at OU Law serve an initial three-year probationary period under a series of one-year appointments, each covering a nine-month academic-year service period.  Before the end of the third year, the faculty member may be considered for appointment to a five-year, presumptively renewable term.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a J.D. or equivalent law degree and have substantial relevant legal practice experience.  By the beginning of the appointment, the successful candidate must be an active member in good standing of the Oklahoma Bar and must remain authorized to practice law in Oklahoma throughout the appointment.  The candidate must also satisfy all requirements necessary to supervise licensed legal interns and represent clinic clients in Oklahoma courts.

Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to excellent clinical teaching, student supervision, ethical and client-centered representation, and service to the profession and community.  Prior clinical teaching or experience supervising law students or junior attorneys is strongly preferred.
