Patrol Officer – City of Lead, SD

The City of Lead is seeking dedicated Patrol Officers to join our public safety team. This position is responsible for enforcing local, state, and federal laws with professionalism, integrity, and a focus on serving the community. Patrol duties include traffic enforcement, city ordinance compliance, responding to medical calls, investigating crimes, and processing traffic accidents. Officers will conduct proactive patrols, complete thorough incident reports, collect and preserve evidence, provide victim advocacy, and deliver court testimony as required.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Enforcing laws and city ordinances while protecting the rights of citizens.
• Conducting traffic stops, investigating collisions, and managing traffic scenes.
• Responding to emergency medical calls, performing basic first aid/CPR until medical personnel arrive.
• Investigating reported crimes, interviewing witnesses, and preparing investigative reports.
• Engaging in community policing, crime prevention initiatives, and public safety outreach.

The City offers a competitive benefits package and a 12-hour work schedule with every other weekend off (schedule may vary). Benefits include paid leave, health insurance, retirement plan participation, and opportunities for training and professional development. Starting pay is $27.00 per hour and may increase to $29.05 depending on prior experience. Additional step increases are available for certain certifications and training milestones.
