Overview

Under general supervision, performs tasks and duties related to the protection of public health, safety and welfare, and the enforcement of applicable federal, state and local laws; provides traffic enforcement and control; carries out special assignments in a particular phase of police work; performs other related duties as required.

Primary Responsibilities
-
The Police Officer I is the entry level class and the Police Officer II is the senior class in the Police Officer series. Both are responsible for performance of the full scope of assigned law enforcement duties and responsibilities, under general supervision. The Police Officer I is distinguished from the Police Officer II in that the Police Officer I is the entry-level description in the professional Police Officer series. The Police Officer I serves a twelve month probationary period and is expected to promote to the senior level Police Officer II classification after successful completion of probation.

Minimum Qualifications

- A high school diploma, or equivalent
- Prior experience in law enforcement or successful completion of college coursework in criminology, police science, or a related field is desirable but not required
- Possession of a California POST Basic Certificate
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver's license

Applications will be reviewed for minimum qualifications. Those persons who meet the necessary criteria will be called for an oral interview, which is weighted at 100%. Candidates who earn at least 70% on the interview will be recommended to the Civil Service Commission for inclusion on the employment eligibility list.
Persons selected for further consideration will be required to successfully pass a polygraph examination, background investigation and chief’s interview before being offered a conditional appointment. The offer is conditioned on successful completion of a thorough psychological assessment and medical evaluation (including a drug screen). Applicants must pass all elements to be considered for hire.
The City Manager will make the final selection and appointment based on recommendation for hire by the Police Chief. Primary Responsibilities

The Police Officer Trainee is a trainee class responsible for attending a basic police academy. This position is not intended as a permanent appointment, and those not appointed to the class of Police Officer after successful completion of the law enforcement academy, or appointment as a Community Services Officer, are rejected during probation This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Police Officer in that the latter has successfully completed a law enforcement academy and achieved peace officer status in accordance with City and Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).

Senior Civil Engineer
Salary $110,157.36 - $140,577.38 Annually

Under direction, manages City capital improvement projects and provides a high level of professional and technical civil engineering work related to public and private project development including application of City requirements and other regulations; performs a variety of the most difficult and complex professional office and field engineering work; prepares and/or reviews plans, designs, and specifications for a variety of City and private development projects; manages, reviews and directs work prepared by outside consultants; provides project direction, work coordination, and training for other professional, paraprofessional, and technical engineering staff; performs related work as required.

Primary Responsibilities

The Senior Civil Engineer is an advanced journey level registered civil engineering classification in the professional civil engineering class series. Assignments are given in general terms with incumbents exercising considerable independent judgment and discretion in the application of the principles and practices of planning, design, construction and the administration of a variety of projects to include but not be limited to public works projects including streets, water, sewer and storm drain systems; City parks; building projects and airport projects. The Senior Civil Engineer is distinguished from the next higher position of Deputy City Engineer in that the higher position acts as a division manager and also acts as the Engineer-in-Charge in the absence of the City Engineer.

Minimum Qualifications

- A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
- At least four (4) years full time Civil Engineering work experience, including two (2) years full time as project manager
- A valid certificate of registration as a Civil Engineer with the State of California
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver's license

Examination scores determine standing on Civil Service eligibility lists. The City Manager, upon recommendation of the department head, will make the final selection and appointment from the established eligibility list.
