About The Company: The Philadelphia Tribune Media Group is an award-winning, multi-media company and the nation’s oldest, continuously published African American newspaper. The company also publishes content across print and digital channels, as well as, producing events of interest that impact the African American community.

Job Summary: We are currently seeking an energetic, visionary, and hands-on Managing Editor to lead content across print and digital channels. The key responsibilities are to lead the editorial direction, ensure journalistic excellence and cultural accuracy, oversee investigative and community storytelling, protect editorial independence and represent the publication publicly.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage, plan and organize the day-to day production of the editorial content for all Tribune publications and websites
• Oversee personnel matters including recruitment, retention of employees, and performance issues
• Work effectively across departments throughout the Company to build readership and increase print and digital circulation

Desired Qualifications:

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience as a journalist and editor at a newspaper or magazine
• Skilled at coaching journalists and improving performance
• BS/BA degree in Journalism
• Strong writing, editing, and fact checking skills
• Thorough knowledge of media and libel law
• Knowledge of digital and social media platforms
• Good news judgment, accuracy, and the ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to write editorials
• Knowledge of AP Style, Microsoft Office and Internet browsers
