IAVM is seeking an experienced professional with a background in association membership recruitment and retention. The Membership Recruitment Manager (MRM) will be responsible for recruiting and securing new members from these venue types: arenas, convention centers, exhibit halls, amphitheaters, fairgrounds, performing arts centers, stadiums, universities, etc. The position’s principal focus is to increase growth in the Professional, Young Professional, Allied, Faculty and Student membership categories.
Through strategic recruitment and connection-driven marketing activities, such as making prospect calls with an emphasis on relationship-building, the MRM is responsible for generating new members, creating a pipeline of qualified prospects to generate new members, and achieve recruitment revenue goals. They will effectively maximize leads from IAVM events, affiliate organizations, online data mining, and trade exhibitions to establish prospects, nurture relationships, and convert them to members.
The MRM fosters connections with academic institutions to increase faculty and student memberships and promotes the establishment of campus student chapters to raise awareness of career opportunities in venue management.
This individual will have specific revenue goals that contribute to meeting the $2.2M department budget, ensuring fiscal year objectives are met or exceeded.
Recruitment
- Consistent updates to outlined projects, i.e. lead management strategy, while adding new acquisition efforts with timelines to ensure timely execution of membership marketing efforts.
- Create and execute effective marketing campaigns to promote membership benefits to attract new members.
- Drive new member revenue growth by achieving goals as outlined in the department
- Build strong relationships with potential clients with an aim of converting them to membership.
- Tailor pitch to meet the needs of each prospect and be persistent with follow up.
- Respond to web and phone inquiries promptly.
- Collaborate with staff members to leverage existing education programs, training, events, research, and other services available in the acquisition of new members.
- Utilize IAVM resources to stimulate interest across all regions and sectors.
- Assist with outreach to encourage past members to reinstate membership.
- Collaborate with Marketing Department to ensure recruitment resources align with brand standards and messaging points.
Engagement
- Convey the value of membership via industry event attendance and utilizing all available technology.
Retention
- Participate in retention and reinstatement efforts as needed to increase renewal results and align recruitment efforts to retention efforts.
Data and Reporting
- Provide regular reports and updates on membership and service activities.
- Regular adding and updating of prospects in CRM and Smart Sheet for tracking purposes.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement appropriate strategies.

Minimum requirements:
- 3+ years of association membership, marketing, or sales experience preferred.
- Excellent communication skills are required, both verbal and written.
- Achieve year-over-year expansion in all membership categories.
- Experience with sales or membership databases, specifically, association management software or customer relationship management systems (CRMs).
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel, Word, and Power Point is required.
- Commitment to customer service excellence.
- Ability to connect, communicate, and collaborate with individuals with diverse styles, perspectives and backgrounds at various levels within the live events industry.
- Competitive, goal-oriented, ambitious, motivated self-starter with a proven ability to drive membership growth through strategic outreach, persuasive communication while demonstrating sound judgment.
