Plum Borough employment opportunity Police Officer
Public Notice is hereby given that the Plum Borough Police Department will be conducting an examination for full-time police officers for the Plum Borough Police Department. The starting annual base salary for a full-time police officer is set at $85,064.39 for 2026.
The police department expects to hire a minimum of four (4) officers from this eligibility list due to retirements, promotions, and possible military commitments. Borough officers enjoy an impressive benefits package and an excellent salary, as well as a 20 nautical-air mile radius residency requirement (from the Municipal Center). The department currently consists of 27 fulltime officers including the Chief of Police, 1 Lieutenant, 3 Patrol Sergeants, 3 Corporals, 2 Detectives, and 17 patrol officers.
Plum Borough is in Allegheny County. Its the largest borough within the county and the second largest in the state of Pennsylvania. Plum Borough has a population of approximately 30,000 residents. In January of 2023, the police department and borough offices moved into a new $20+ million-dollar Municipal Complex that has an in-house, employee only, state-of-the-art fitness center & gym as well as indoor firing range and patrol vehicle carport.
The application deadline is November 19, 2025, at 11: 59 PM.
Prospective police officer registration begins at 8: 30am on Saturday, November 22, 2025. The testing will be held at Plum Senior High School located at 900 Elicker Road Pittsburgh, PA 15239. No applicants will be accepted after 8: 30am. The physical agility test will begin immediately after registration is complete. Only those applicants who pass the physical agility portion of the process will be permitted to take the written examination.
The following requirements shall apply to all applicants:
1. Applicants must be a citizen of the United States.
2. Applicants must be 20 years of age at the time of application.
3. Applicants shall be 21 years of age at the time of appointment.
4. Applicants shall possess a diploma from an accredited high school or general education diploma (G.E.D.)
5. Applicants shall be physically and mentally fit to perform the full duties of a municipal police officer.
6. Applicants shall possess a valid drivers license.
7. Applicants may be enrolled in a Municipal Police Officers Act 120 Certification Program at time of application but must have successfully completed the Act 120 certification by time of appointment.
