BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Employee will report to the County Assessor and will establish real estate values for residential, nonresidential and commercial properties. This position will require working outdoors in all types of climates and terrain. Employee will assist co-workers in assessing every property within the county, determine proper appreciation or depreciation of structures and/or land, sketch buildings, take measurements, and enter all information pertaining to appraisal on property computer records. All duties will be performed under minimal supervision. Employee may be required to work irregular hours, attend jobrelated meetings, and perform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: High School Diploma or GED certificate required. Experience: Two (2) years of experience in assessment work preferred. Certifications: Certification by the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO) and have the courses in the order as Property Tax Division states. Employee will be required to take and pass IAAO Course 101,102, 201 and 300 with course 101 to be passed within 18 months of hire. Employee is required to become a NM Certified Appraiser within the first five years of employment as an Appraiser. All New Mexico Certified Appraisers must comply with PTD education requirements for continuing education. Testing: Must be able to accurately type 40 words per minute. MUST SUBMIT A TYPING TEST. Pre-Employment Testing: All job offers are contingent upon successfully pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screen. License: Must have, or ability to obtain, a current valid NM driver’s license and be insurable by the County Insurance Authority. MUST PROVIDE A CURRENT DRIVING RECORD. Communication: Effective oral and written communication skills in English required. Must be able to communicate verbally with co-workers and general public. Must be able to listen to and follow verbal directions in English. Knowledge: Computer knowledge. Knowledge of laws pertinent to appraisal and ownership of land and real estate, appraisal theory and techniques, legal descriptions in common use, and an understanding of mapping systems and programs. Must have knowledge of Apex program. Ability to draw to scale and to read blueprints as required. Performance: Ability to perform in the working conditions described with the equipment, tools and materials listed. Read and copy numbers with great accuracy. Maintain good personnel relations and good housekeeping practices. Must perform all other duties as assigned.
