Assistant Professor of Biological Anthropology Job ID 61367 Responsibilities The Department of Anthropology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Biological Anthropology. We seek a broadly trained biological anthropologist with an active research program and interests that complement those of existing faculty. Geographic focus of research is open. We welcome applications from experts in all aspects of biological anthropology including evolutionary anthropology, primatology, human ecology, and forensics. This position is on a 9-month contract. Tenure-line faculty teach a 2-2 load, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, conduct research, and contribute to the shared governance of the department and university. Primary teaching duties will include courses required for the undergraduate major, courses that satisfy the general education undergraduate requirements, and combined upper-division/graduate courses on topics in the candidate's research area. Qualifications A Ph.D. from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in Anthropology is required. Applicants will have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and an interest in incorporating students into research opportunities through an active research program. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to motivate and inspire students, are essential. Other Information The Department of Anthropology, with the support of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, is expanding its role in maintaining Florida State University as one of the top Public Carnegie Research I universities in the country. This is a 12-month contract position. We are seeking a dynamic colleague with demonstrated ability to teach in Anthropological Archaeology and/or Biological Anthropology in our undergraduate program. The geographic focus for this position is open. Teaching faculty at FSU typically carry a 4-4-2 teaching load and are expected to participate in the shared governance of the department and university. Teaching expectations may be adjusted based on class size and service commitments, but could include Introduction to Anthropology, Childhood Around the World, Great Apes and/or World Prehistory as well as other courses chosen in consultation with the Department Chair and the Chair of the Curriculum Committee. Primary responsibilities include teaching required courses for the undergraduate major, as well as upper-division courses aligned with the candidates area of expertise. Instruction will primarily be in person, but some online instruction may be possible if the candidate desires. Required Qualifications: Academic doctorate or highest level terminal degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties, with a demonstrated record of effectiveness in teaching anthropology.
