Skilled Heavy Civil Equipment Operator

Charley Toppino & Sons is a leading contractor based in the Florida Keys specializing in heavy civil construction projects including highways, bridges, site development, utilities, and earthwork. We are committed to safety, quality, and integrity in everything we do. We're currently seeking experienced and reliable Heavy Civil Equipment Operators to join our growing team.

Position Overview:

As a Heavy Civil Equipment Operator, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating various types of heavy equipment to support large-scale civil construction projects. Equipment may include excavators, bulldozers, backhoes, graders, loaders, and more.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate heavy machinery to perform excavation, grading, trenching, and material handling.
• Follow site plans and grade specifications as directed by supervisors and engineers.
• Conduct pre-operation inspections and perform basic maintenance on equipment.
• Always adhere to all safety regulations and procedures.
• Work collaboratively with foremen, laborers, and other operators to complete project goals.
• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
• Identify and report mechanical issues or safety hazards promptly.

Requirements:

• Minimum 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in a civil construction setting.
• Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred but not required).
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and grade stakes is a plus.
• Strong understanding of job site safety and equipment operation procedures.
• Must be physically fit and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Willingness to work overtime and travel to job sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

• OSHA 10 or 30 Certification.
• GPS/Grade control system experience (Trimble, Topcon, etc.).
• Experience on DOT or municipal infrastructure projects.
