Job Description

The Development Director leads all efforts to raise revenues for PGI, managing fundraising initiatives, marketing and advertising, outreach activities, and public relations. This position also manages PGIs daily financial transactions and cash flows. He or she must consult the Finance Committee for technical assistance on an ongoing, as needed basis regarding PGIs financial matters. In accordance with the corporate bylaws, the Development Director has a dotted-line relationship with the Board Treasurer. This position combines the positions of a Chief Financial Officer, a Development Officer, and a Communications Officer. The Development Director supervises employees and reports to the Executive Director. He or she establishes and maintains relationships with various third party entities, individuals, and the general public. The Development Director is PGIs alternate spokesperson and may speak to the general public and media.
The Development Director serves on a five-year renewable term for a maximum of three consecutive terms. He or she may be employed for up to 15 years.
Work performance is 100% remote. However, in-person meetings will be required as needed, providing at least two weeks prior notice. All of the executive officers will meet at least three times per year to discuss strategy, budgeting, performance, and sensitive matters. Applicants will be considered from all states, but the selected person must be able to travel to Washington, DC for the meetings.

Job Requirements
- Leadership role in designing, implementing, and evaluating strategies related to development and communications
- Simultaneous leadership role in managing daily finances, enforcing fiscal policies, and preparing financial reports for tax and accounting purposes
- Establish and execute a development strategy
- Establish and execute a communications strategy
- Schedule and carry out press conferences and other types of events, locally and nationally
- Respond to inquiries from the press and may speak to the press on short notice
- Write and edit a wide range of written products designed for different audiences from the general public to prospective donors to public officials
- Hire, supervise, and mentor employees and volunteers
- Cooperate with the Program Director on supervising volunteers, accepting guidance as it relates to program-related issues
- Establish and maintain partnerships with organizations
- Oversee all phases of procurement to manage contracts as needed to conduct an independent audit and to support operations
- Collaborate with other executive officers and the Board on strategic planning and budget planning, and provide ongoing review and updates on the execution of the strategic plan and the annual budget
- Cooperate with the Board Treasurer, accepting technical assistance and guidance, on financial matters
- Cooperate as part of an editorial review team to review and approve written products submitted by internal and external authors for publication
- Develop and revise policies in collaboration with other executive officers and the Board
- Develop and revise standard operating procedures and technical guidelines in collaboration with other executive officers

Job Qualifications
- This position requires a background check to verify no criminal convictions and no violent acts committed within the past five years
- Citizenship requirement: U.S. citizen or national (dual citizenship may be considered)
- Age requirement: 35 years old or older
- Master of Public Administration, Master of Business Administration, or similar Masters level degree
- Bachelor of Arts degree in English, communications, or related field
- 10 years or more of professional, technical experience in all areas of non-profit development (fundraising, outreach, donor engagement and management, individual donations, corporate donations, major gifts, endowments, and institutional advancement)
- 3 years or more of experience in communications, marketing, or advertising, preferably in the non-profit sector
- 2 years or more of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or financial management
- 2 years or more of supervisory experience (emphasis on mentoring staff and remote supervision across multiple time zones)
- Experience in using modern, online (software as a service, SaaS) computer systems designed for fundraising, engagement, and communications
- Experience in using desktop publishing tools including audio and video editing software, and the ability to train staff on using those tools
- Strong oral communication skills, preferably in public speaking
- Exceptional writing and editing skills to produce a wide range of written products for a mass audience (press releases, marketing copy, newsletters, and speeches, etc.)
- Ability to write letters with diplomacy and sensitivity to target groups (private individuals, corporate leaders, major donors, and elected public officials)

Evaluation Criteria
All applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria. Candidates who achieve a score of at least 80 points will advance to the final round for hiring.
