JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Controller is responsible for assisting in the development and administration of accounting policies, processes and procedures. The Assistant Controller will assist the Controller in the preparation of the fiscal year-end external audits and all audits relative to the areas of responsibility that may arise. The position operates within a large and intricate body of financial requirements and audit regulations involving technical complexity of rule interpretation and hands-on expertise with complex information systems. In the absence of the Controller the Assistant Controller is to act on behalf of the Controller ensuring all accounting functions are performed in an adequate and timely manner. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Performs other duties as requested by Senior Management QUALIFICATIONS: The Assistant Controller requires knowledge of accounting principles and practices in a large organization with a complex mission and the methods and techniques used in complex financial and accounting analysis. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and state and federal regulations is necessary. The ability to manage the application of current and evolving information technology to the workload is also required. Ability to be detail-oriented. Ability to work independently under general supervision. Ability to exercise independent judgement and to keep information confidential. Ability to organize complex materials and manage multiple projects. Skills in building relationships with stakeholders. COMPUTER SKILLS: Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office software products specifically, Excel. Experience with financial operating systems, preferably People Soft Financial software. CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS: Strong interpersonal skills to foster teamwork and create positive connections with customers. Ability to establish and meet goals to increase efficiency improving customer service. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related field. Master's degree preferred. Five (5) to eight (8) years¿ work experience in an accounting environment. A strong accounting background with emphasis on conforming to GAAP and GASB rules of accounting is required. Three years¿ experience supervising staff. REQUIRED CERTIFICATES/REGISTRATIONS: N/A LANGUAGE SKILLS: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common business journals, financial reports and light legal documents. Ability to respond to inquiries. Ability to produce written and/or oral reports and to create and present information. Bilingual a plus. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with significant mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to maintain a level and appropriate business demeanor.
