SUMMARY
Open until filled
This is a technical and supervisory position. Perform chemical analysis for Textile Center clients accurately, in accordance with industry standards, if applicable, and in a timely manner. Develop new test procedures and protocols, where applicable, with appropriate costing and pricing. Provide written reports and render analytical opinions based on data and experience. Consult with clients on materials, methods, and operations. Train and supervise technicians as needed. Perform routine maintenance and advise Center director on options for repair or replacement of equipment. Order supplies. Ensure that the analytical equipment is kept in a state of readiness and calibration. Schedule workflow and invoice clients in a timely fashion.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Direct or perform product development services or testing services in various areas of textile technology.
- Collaborate with lab personnel to facilitate the process of completing customer projects.
- Accept responsibility for managing situations and problems.
- Prepare travel requests, leave requests, reimbursement requests, supply requisitions, and equipment requisitions for the Analytical Chemistry Lab.
- Stay current on the latest trends and technologies related to the position and responsibility.
- Operate and maintain all laboratory equipment including, but not limited to, the following:
-Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrophotometer (ICP) -Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer (GCMS) -Gas Chromatograph (GC) -Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC) -Ultraviolet Visible Spectrometer (UV Vis) -Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR) -Moisture Analyzer
- Develop methods for a wide range of analyses of polymers, fibers, raw materials, and various production problems related to these materials.
- Adapt methods from standard procedures such as AATCC, ISO and ASTM to run on the laboratory’s equipment and within the laboratory’s capabilities.
- Order all supplies and equipment resources to perform testing.
- Consult with customers to determine their testing needs and to aid in their decision making.
- Establish a cost system based on time, materials, and equipment costs and invoice all work performed in a timely fashion.
- Maintain systems to track workflow and quantify analysis costs.
- Project equipment needs and justify those needs to enhance or maintain the laboratory capabilities.
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field required.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- At least five years' experience in laboratory chemical analysis and polymer/fiber-related materials.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Walking, stooping, kneeling, bending, and overhead reaching required.
- Must be able to climb and crawl around machinery.
- Exposure to typical elements associated with a textile manufacturing and lab environment.
