Transportation Supervisor
Under the direction of the Director of Maintenance, Operations, & Transportation, the Transportation Supervisor oversees all student transportation operations within the Rio School District. Responsibilities include scheduling and dispatching buses for daily routes, extracurricular activities, and special education; supporting driver training and evaluations; ensuring compliance with state/federal regulations; and managing budget and fleet operations.
- Plan, coordinate, and dispatch bus routes, field trips, sports trips, and special education transport, adjusting schedules due to traffic, road, or weather conditions.
- Manage hiring, discipline, and professional development of bus drivers and transportation staff.
- Oversee substitute coverage and staffing to maintain safe and continuous service.
- Ensure compliance with licensing, certification, and safety protocols (e.g., California CDLs, CHP bus certifications, drug testing, DOT physicals).
- Maintain accurate records: vehicle logs, mileage, fuel, repair, maintenance, accident/incident reports, pupil counts, attendance, and related reports.
- Coordinate regular vehicle inspections and schedule timely preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Develop, monitor, and manage transportation department budgets.
- Develop policies, procedures, and route plans; revise as needed based on ridership and operational needs.
- Respond to emergencies, accidents, parent and staff inquiries; manage complaints and safety issues.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or postsecondary coursework in transportation preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in lead or supervisory roles. Bus driving and transportation operations experience preferred. District experience in K–8 or similar is preferred.
Licenses & Certifications: Valid California Class A or B CDL with “P” endorsement, CHP school bus certificate, current medical certification, first aid certification, negative TB clearance, fingerprint/background clearance, and drug testing compliance.
Salary/Compensation: $5,114 - $6,218 per month
