Description
The City of Wentzville is seeking a motivated and dependable individual to join our team as a Wastewater Operator. In this role, you will assist with the daily operations and basic maintenance of the Water Reclamation Center and Wastewater Division facilities. This position plays a key part in protecting our community’s water resources and supporting the City’s environmental and public health standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with daily system inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs at the Water Reclamation Center.
- Perform custodial duties and grounds maintenance at all Wastewater Division facilities.
- Operate vehicles and heavy equipment including front-end loader, skid loader, telehandler forklift, tanker truck, dump truck, and agricultural tractors with biosolids application equipment.
- Support the Biosolids Management Program by operating dewatering and application equipment, performing soil sampling, and ensuring compliance with DNR and EPA regulations.
- Assist with daily water sample collection and laboratory procedures.
- Provide professional, respectful, and positive customer service in all interactions.
- Ensure safe work practices and compliance with City and departmental policies.
Additional Duties
- Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours emergencies (30-minute response time required).
- Assist with winter storm operations, including plowing snow and spreading salt, on a 24-hour call basis (full-time only).

Qualifications
Job Qualifications – Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.
- Minimum one year of experience in inspection and operation of wastewater treatment operations and equipment, or other relevant experience required.
- Job-relevant certification/license, completion of vocational/technical program, or completion of apprenticeship are preferred.
- Prior equipment operating experience desired.
- MODNR Wastewater Treatment Operator Class D Certification is preferred, or the ability to obtain it within 180 days of employment is required.
- Valid Class A CDL with airbrakes and tanker endorsement preferred, or the ability to obtain within 180 days of employment required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.
- Knowledge and general understanding of the functions of the Water Reclamation Center, and all Wastewater lift stations.
- Ability to provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.

- Basic knowledge in the use of general computer programs and applications including email and mobile apps
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Ability to safely drive vehicles used to transport materials, tools, and equipment
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential job duty. Job requires being reliable, responsible, and dependable.
