MANAGER OF MATERIALS MANAGEMENT – POWER SUPPLY The Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) operates as a municipal electric utility committed to serving the community. GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: This role carries significant responsibilities in overseeing technical, supervisory, and administrative functionalities within the Material Management sector. As a principal expert in materials management, you will be responsible for strategizing and directing the organization’s material management policies, objectives, and initiatives, ensuring that inventory management goals are achieved effectively. You will work closely under the guidance of the Vice President of Power Supply while also mentoring subordinate staff and managing relevant job functions. Depending on operational needs, the potential for project management responsibilities may also arise. TYPICAL TASKS: Core responsibilities include planning, organizing, supervising, and actively participating in the processes of ordering, receiving, storing, and distributing a diverse range of equipment, supplies, or parts. You will oversee the design and evaluation of maintenance records pertinent to inventory control systems, engaging in both periodic and perpetual inventory practices. Your role will focus on organizing materials management strategies and supervising detailed physical inventory audits. Coupled with this, you will provide essential reconciliations relative to materials management and support the formal bidding processes for inventory evaluations and awarding contracts. Cultivating relationships with suppliers to ascertain the adaptability and availability of materials is crucial. Additionally, you’ll be tasked with procuring necessary operational components while ensuring compliance with existing commodity contracts. You will oversee warehouse staff and perform essential storekeeper functions while managing both indoor and outdoor storage responsibilities. Critical to this position will be your involvement in providing insights into materials management software and recommending necessary updates as operational demands evolve. Establishing procedures for the receipt and distribution of stock, managing inventories, and handling surplus equipment disposal will also be imperative. Reporting is a significant responsibility in this role, along with availability after hours for emergency situations. You may also be called upon to support warehouse operations across various facilities, which may involve travel commitments. Further related responsibilities might be assigned as they arise. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: This position requires an extensive understanding of materials management in electric utility operations, as well as proficiency in safety protocols related to warehouse operations. A thorough knowledge of modern inventory management practices and warehousing techniques is essential, along with experience in work order systems that track labor and material expenditures. Proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing software applications is mandatory, complemented by the capability to effectively plan and supervise work efforts. Familiarity with hazardous waste handling and transportation regulations as per DOT is critical. The ability to cultivate and maintain positive working relationships with employees, various departments, the public, and suppliers is essential in this role. Flexibility, adept problem-solving abilities, and effective verbal and written communication skills are important, along with knowledge of pricing techniques, market trends, public procurement methods, and readiness to respond in emergencies. Physical capability for lifting weights up to 50 pounds may also be necessary. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A Bachelor’s Degree in materials management, supply logistics, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university is required, in combination with education, training, and relevant experience totalling seven (7) years within materials management. Preferred candidates will have supervisory experience and an understanding of the electric power generation industry. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid driver’s license from the State of Florida is required, in addition to current forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire.
