Government and Politics Reporter-Casper, WY The Casper Star-Tribune is Wyoming's only statewide newspaper, and we are seeking a full-time local government/local politics multimedia reporter to join our award-winning team. We are a close-knit newsroom with a collaborative environment. The Star-Tribune offers the opportunity to take a deeper dive into issues and work on larger enterprise pieces -- whether investigative or feature stories. We're looking for a self-starter who can present complex issues in easy-to-follow narrative form, and supplement coverage with local video. The ideal candidate is someone who will find the story behind the story; someone who doesn't wait for meetings or news conferences to get the news. We're looking for a reporter who will dig deeper than meeting coverage and develop sources to stay ahead of developing stories. The position is part of an upbeat, collaborative newsroom and offers the opportunity to produce content for print and online on a wide variety of topics at a paper that values enterprise and watchdog reporting as well as narrative storytelling. The role includes producing photos and short videos for some stories. Local government bodies tackle a variety of issues, including affordable housing, public safety, energy, conservation, business development and zoning laws that impact how the community grows and evolves. Reporting should be centered on the people and how policies affect their everyday lives. Successful candidates will have a journalism degree and experience however; we will consider new graduates who have completed internships or experience at the college newspaper. The ability to report in today's instant digital news environment is critical. The right person will be a self-starter, willing to jump in and find the stories that our readers value. Candidates must have a flexible schedule and be able to work nights and weekends as needed. A valid driver's license and proof of insurance are required. Come live, work and play in the heart of the Mountain West! Casper offers a walkable downtown area with great food, music, art galleries, breweries and more. And, for those inclined to outdoor recreation, Wyoming has it all. Skiing, snowboarding and miles of hiking trails are a 20-minute drive up the mountain. And, being centrally located, Casper is only a few hours from Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Devils Tower and so much more. Why Join Us?
