The Campus Safety & Security Officer (CSSO) has the primary responsibility of maintaining all campus areas between the hours of 6: 30am – 3: 00pm. Specifically, the CSSO will work in collaboration with other Campus Safety & Security Officers and other school personnel to address student behavioral issues, enforce procedural rules and regulations, and ensure the personal safety of students, staff, visitors, and property. The CSSO will continuously patrol halls, restrooms, and outside areas and will regularly monitor the integrity of locked entrances/exits throughout the school. The CSSO will work under and report to the Assistant Principals.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1.Monitor students and visitors throughout the school facility and school grounds, specifically hallways, cafeteria, Competition Center, parking lots, and athletic fields. As scheduled, provides Security Office and front door monitoring, access and closed-circuit television coverage.
2.Communicate daily with the other Campus Safety & Security Officers and the school district’s Assistant Principals.
3.Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff and community; communicate with students and staff to provide and receive information regarding school activities, security and safety issues.
4.Report any required maintenance and custodial services to the Facilities office.
5.Write and submit clear and intelligible incident reports to the Assistant Principals.
6.Provide supportive coverage in the hallways/restrooms areas during school lunches (10: 45 a.m. – 12: 30 p.m.)
7.Monitor students waiting for late-bus transportation until the second shift Campus Safety & Security Officer arrives.
8.Provide coverage between 6: 30 a.m. – 3: 00 p.m. throughout the interior and exterior of the facility.
9.Assist in the oversight of special events in the building as needed.
10.Check vehicles in parking lots for authorized parking stickers and/or assigned parking spaces. Advise administration of the need to utilize the Denver Boot and/or to request towing.
11.Assist in opening the facility, ensuring that students entering in the morning are properly monitored in the hallways and/or directed to the proper morning waiting location. Report security and general maintenance problems to the Assistant Principals/Facilities Department.
12.May be required to provide specialized cleaning as needed. This may include, but not limited to, blood borne pathogens, or infectious cleaning.
13.All additional duties deemed appropriate by the Principal or designee.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. 1.Minimum of a high school diploma or experience in a related field or discipline with 6 months to 1-year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
2.Experience working with secondary public school students.
3.Ability to communicate and work effectively with students, parents, community members and school personnel.
4.Possess excellent interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
5.Possess outstanding professional and personal characteristics.
6.Be physically and emotionally capable of carrying-out responsibilities and duties of a Campus Safety Officer. This position requires frequent physical exertion with mobility sufficient to move about, stand, and/or sit and walk for extended periods and access all locations in the work environment. Several hours a day will be spent walking, standing, sitting and/or climbing staircases whenever necessary. Activities include moderate to frequent physical exertion in body movements such as reaching, bending and twisting. The position also requires moderate to frequent grasping, pushing, and pulling of materials. Campus Safety staff are frequently expected to lift 20-50 pounds.
7.Be able to work indoors and outdoors. This may involve extreme weather conditions such as rain, snow, and heat/ cold extremes. Campus Safety staff are frequently exposed to cleaning chemicals, power tools and equipment, and other hazardous situations that may be encountered during the performance of his or her duties.
8.Possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record in order to be authorized to operate Valley Tech’s vehicles.
9.Be available for overtime hours if necessary.
Compensation and Terms of Employment:
1.Hourly salary based on qualifications and experience. Salary range for this school year position: $23.80 - $25.88 /hour
2.School year assignment – 40 hours per week. Regular schedule Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day with a half-hour duty free lunch period. Targeted workday of 6: 30 a.m. to 3: 00 p.m. Extended hours may be necessary at times to meet school building activities.
3.The school district will provide necessary facilities, equipment, materials and supplies as needed to accomplish assignment.
