Description
The City of Wentzville is seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Senior Stormwater Technician to oversee the planning, inspection, and documentation of stormwater infrastructure installation and asset management. This position plays a critical role in safeguarding public health and environmental quality by ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding grading, drainage, erosion control, water quality testing, and pollution prevention.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent the City on development and infrastructure projects, inspecting construction for compliance with approved plans and permits.
- Coordinate schedules and inspection requirements with developers, contractors, engineers, and City staff.
- Inspect erosion control Best Management Practices (BMPs) on construction sites and enforce relevant codes and specifications.
- Maintain and update GIS mapping of stormwater infrastructure; collect asset data to support inventory and maintenance efforts.
- Provide technical guidance and training to internal staff and inspectors on stormwater systems, construction techniques, regulatory requirements, and inspection protocols.
- Review engineering plans, material testing reports, and as-built drawings for accuracy and conformity with standards.
- Conduct final yard inspections, stormwater plot plan reviews, and stream water quality monitoring.
- Investigate stormwater-related concerns and recommend practical, compliant solutions.
- Maintain detailed records and reports for inspections and enforcement activities; notify responsible parties of any deficiencies and track resolution.
- Perform duties safely and in accordance with all City safety policies and procedures.
Additional Duties
- Assist with inspecting sanitary sewers, water lines, and street construction on new developments.
- Support community outreach and educational initiatives related to stormwater management.
- Monitor work sites for hazardous conditions and recommend corrective actions.
- Respond to winter storm operations as needed; may be required to plow snow and spread salt during emergencies.
- Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Job Qualifications – Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.
- Associate or Technical degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Science or a related field is required.
- Five years of experience in Civil Engineering, Public Works, Construction, or a similar work environment required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Job-relevant certification/license or technical program completion preferred (e.g. Missouri Stream Team Certification Level 2, Chemical Spill Response, Confined Space Entry, etc.).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.
- Proficiency with stormwater practices and water quality regulations.
- Proficiency in use of basic business software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, presentations) and office equipment and machines required; proficiency with Auto CAD and/or GIS software desired.
- Ability to read and understand blueprint and construction plans.
- Ability to provide exceptional service and maintain a positive and productive environment to ensure compliance with policies, procedures and goals of the City, Department and Division.
- Ability to communicate effectively and build working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and customers by telephone, in writing and in person.
