CORRECTIONS
OFFICER POLICE DEPARTMENT
The City of Ashtabula is seeking applications for the part time position of Corrections Officer in the Police Department.

General Purpose The Corrections Officer supervises inmates within an assigned area, maintaining order and security through fair and impartial application of Ashtabula Police Departments Policies and Procedures and accepted correctional security and supervision practices. (a) Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Makes periodic activity and physical security checks on all inmate housing areas to which inmates have access. 2. Will conduct searches of inmates in accordance with ORC 2933.22 and under guidelines established in the Ashtabula Police Department Policies and Procedures, the Ashtabula Jail Manual and standards set for the by the State of Ohio. 3. Reports accidents/injuries of personnel and inmates. 4. Controls inmate movements within the jail. 5. Processes new inmates following the intake procedures 6. Conducts period informal head counts of inmates, conducts safety/security inspections of the day rooms, cells and other areas of the jail facility. 7. Prepares meals and serves meals to inmates, maintains accountability of all food trays and utensils. 8. Dispenses medication to inmates in accordance with Ashtabula Policies and Procedures. 9. Supervises the cleaning of inmate living quarters and common areas. 10. Provides inmates with hygiene items and shower supplies as required. 11. Supervises inmate visitation times as directed. 12. Reports all damage to jail property to his/her immediate supervisor. Reports will be verbal initially then followed-up in writing. 13. Completes and delivers all disciplinary reports and inmate requests/grievances to the shift supervisor concerning inmate behavior and/or classification. 14. Acquaints themselves with the contents of the logs, other written correspondence or directives pertaining to activities that occurred during the proceeding shifts before assuming their assigned duties. This may include verbal briefings from the officer who they are relieving. 15. Ensure that inmates maintain good personal hygiene and that each inmate has the basic necessary items to do so. 16. Maintains a jail log and records during assigned shifts as directed, keeps the inmate roster and housing assignments board up to date. 17. As part of the daily activities uses telephone communications equipment, restraints, TV Monitors, electronic door locks, intercom system, first aid kit, computer terminals and general office equipment as needed.
