THE OPPORTUNITY: The Park District is currently recruiting for Support Services Supervisor located at Public Safety Headquarters. The hiring pools established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancies and additional vacancies that may occur during the one-year life of the hiring pools.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:Under general direction, plans, coordinates, and directs the activities of support services units including Records and Property and Evidence; develops and implements policies and procedures; performs a variety of complex technical work; and performs related duties as assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices. Plans, coordinates, and directs the operations of assigned divisions; Selects, directs, supervises, trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned personnel, including working to promote good performance, correct deficiencies, and implement discipline procedures if necessary; Oversees the application of appropriate statues, acts, and government code sections related to the storage, retention, and release of the Public Safety Division records, property, and evidence; acts as the Department of Justice California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (CLETS) access coordinator; Assures compliance with federal, state, local, and Park District mandates; Identifies and resolves work problems, including staffing and online scheduling; Interprets and correctly applies departmental policies and procedures; Coordinates with the Communications and Records Manager for expenses related to the Records and Property and Evidence Units' budgets; Serves as liaison with other units and divisions throughout the Public Safety Division and Park District; Responds as necessary to emergencies that might arise during 24-hour shift operations such as property and alarm activations, large scale complex incidents, or emergency access to property and evidence warehouse and storage facilities; Transports confidential and sensitive evidence from Police Headquarters or District Substations to Alameda County or Contra Costa County crime labs for processing; Prepares and completes statistical analysis and reports, including Uniform Crime Reporting for the Department of Justice; Performs Department of Justice compliance audits; Responsible for all applicable department policies and procedures such as the collection, storage, retention, and release of records, property, and evidence; Performs related duties as assigned.
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, and 60 semester or 90 quarter units of college level courses in public administration, business administration, records, property and evidence, or a related field. AND Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement work related to records management or property room management, including one year in a supervisory capacity AND License or Certificate:
- Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record is a condition of initial and continued employment in this classification.
- Possession of a valid Peace Officer Standard and Training (POST) Records, dispatch supervisor, property and evidence certificate or International Association for Property & Evidence Organization (IAPE) certificate.
Knowledge of:- Principles, methods, and practices of effective employee supervision and development;
- Public Safety Division procedures, functions, and reporting relationships;
- Operations of and procedures in law enforcement functions, including records management and property and evidence control;
- Budget management and techniques;
- Pertinent codes such as Public Records Act, government code, civil code, vehicle code, evidence code, and penal code;
- Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access, database management systems, records management systems, and computer aided dispatch systems

- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;

- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work at all levels, including a culturally diverse general public, with a focus on quality service to internal staff and external customers and park users.
