Position Status: Full-time; Exempt

Salary: $40,000/year

Position summary:

The Education Coordinator position serves as a member of the Education & Engagement division's Education Department and will provide vital teaching & administrative support for a team that impacts tens of thousands of students and adults annually through a combination of onsite tours, distance learning programs, and teacher programming. The History Education Coordinator will utilize their organizational & interpretive skills to schedule, staff, and lead onsite group tours and digital programs, while overseeing a team of part-time Museum Educators, and provide occasional administrative support for Virginia History Day and other museum programs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of part-time Museum Educators and work with the Director of History Education to ensure that onsite and distance learning educational content is delivered in accordance with Virginia Standards of Learning and VMHC interpretive standards.
• Teach onsite tours and distance learning programs as needed for long-term and temporary exhibitions.
• Book onsite tours and distance learning programs for a variety of adult and student audiences.
• Schedule Museum Educators, Docents, and Volunteers to support tours, programs, and other division and museum initiatives.
• Provide support for the Virginia History Day program in coordination with the Virginia History Day Coordinator.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Necessary:

• Knowledge of general American history, with specific knowledge of Virginia history preferred.

Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.

Possess an understanding and working knowledge of basic computer technology (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and Video Conferencing platforms)

• Ability to work occasional weekends, holidays, and evenings as required

Education & Experience Requirements:

• BA in American Studies, History, Museum Studies, Education, Public History, or related field.
• Experience working with K-12 students, with specific elementary experience preferred.

Experience delivering interpretive programs to a general audience in a museum or public history setting preferred.
