Adirondack Experience, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake (ADKX) is one of upstate New York's major cultural institutions and is nestled right in the heart of the Adirondacks. The ADKX dedicates itself to preserving and interpreting the diverse stories of Adirondack history, culture, and people.
The ADKX campus spans 121 acres, featuring over 20 structures ranging from small historic buildings to a 45,000-square-foot flagship facility. The campus also includes hiking trails and a boathouse, adding to its appeal as a cultural and natural destination. The ADKX is primarily a seasonal museum open to the public from Memorial Day weekend through Indigenous People's Day but also offers virtual and in person programming year-round.
The ADKX is currently looking for a Facilities Manager to supervise and coordinate the workflow of the Facilities staff, manage campus construction and repair, and serve as the main point of contact for institutional operations, activities, and public programs. The salary range for the position is $65,000 - $80,000. This position is eligible for participation in our generous benefit program which consists of health, dental, vision, and supplemental insurance, paid time off, and employer contributions to a 403b retirement account.
The primary purpose of the position is:
Under the direction of the Director of Finance & Operations (DOF&O), The Facilities Manager (FM) supervises and coordinates the workflow of the Facilities staff, and is responsible for managing all campus construction, repair, and maintenance projects, ensuring all projects are accomplished on time and according to all specifications. This position is responsible for overseeing the routine maintenance, repair, and cleaning of the museum's buildings and grounds. This includes exhibit galleries, collection storage areas, administrative and support buildings, parking areas, lawns, gardens, paths and roads; utility and heating, security, and HVAC systems as well as museum vehicles and maintenance equipment. Weekend and evening work may be required on occasion for special events.
Working with the DOF&O, this position helps develop and manage the Maintenance & Operations operating and capital budgets, performs semi-annual maintenance surveys of all site buildings, evaluates deficiencies, and recommends corrective action and estimates repair costs. This position also oversees building renovations, construction, and contracted maintenance services for building, grounds, and equipment. The Facilities Manager is a member of the institution's Senior Staff and serves on Board of Trustee's Facilities Committee and other committees as assigned.

Position Requirements |
- Ability to direct, motivate and evaluate the work of staff. Minimum 5-7 years of supervisory experience required.
- Ability to establish work plans, set priorities and to develop schedules and staff assignments to ensure Departmental and Institutional goals and objectives are met.
- Ability to understand building maintenance and construction specifications and drawings.
- General knowledge of, and ability to oversee routine and/or specialized tasks in plumbing, electrical, building security, masonry, automotive mechanics, landscaping, and building mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of relevant safety, environmental, and OSHA regulations.
- Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills; strong computer skills and experience maintaining a budget.
- Effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
