Head Women's Softball Coach, Part-Time

This position is responsible for the coordination of the women’s softball program which includes coaching, mentoring, guiding, and training student-athletes while pursuing athletics’ twin goals of academic excellence and instructing students in how to be academically and personally successful.

Examples of Duties

• Support the Mission, Vision, & Values of Florida Gateway College.
• Organizes, directs, and administers the women’s softball program.
• Possess expert knowledge of skills and strategies related to softball.
• Supervise fundraising campaigns for the softball program.
• Help identify, evaluate, recruit and retain a roster of at least 16 total eligible women’s softball specific student-athletes.
• Recruit, hire and evaluate all assistant coaches.
• Perform administrative duties for women’s softball program in regards to game schedule, budget management, travel arrangements, scheduling of practice and game facility, and academic support.
• Work with Columbia County Parks and Rec. officials with field/facility scheduling and support.
• Work with athletic director to monitor and direct academic success initiatives for student-athletes (class attendance, tutoring, academic support, etc.)
• Knowledge and compliance of all NJCAA sport guidelines
• Purchase and maintain all women’s softball related equipment
• Work closely with Public Information Officer and marketing department on all media necessities
• Work with athletic director to maintain NJCAA eligibility and all other related documentation on softball student athletes.
• Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.
• Comply with Florida Gateway College policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:

Demonstrated experience coaching at the college/club/high school level. Friendly, approachable, team-oriented, commented to student’s academic success, and integrate into a close networked Athletic Department. Good communication skills; attention to detail, and the ability to instruct students in how to be successful in college are essential qualities for the incumbent holding this position. Must possess leadership and management skills that will further establish the women’s softball program at the college. Understands and maintains knowledge of commitment to compliance with the rules, regulations and policies of the college, the NJCAA, and the conference.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree and coaching experience. Equivalent experience may be substituted for coaching experience. Knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations and compliance issues concerning Title IX and the administration of intercollegiate athletics.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:

Moderate (15 to 44 lbs.) lifting and carrying.

Reaching, use of fingers, climbing, pulling and pushing, walking, standing, kneeling, bending, stooping.
