Government Reporter-Rapid City, SD The Rapid City Journal, South Dakota's largest newspaper, is looking for a curious, dogged multimedia reporter to join our collaborative team in a competitive media market. The reporter's primary beat will be government, with a focus on city and county government while also working on stories about the local impact of action by local legislators and our congressional delegation. The position is part of an upbeat, collaborative newsroom and offers the opportunity to produce content for print and online on a wide variety of topics at a paper that values enterprise and watchdog reporting as well as narrative storytelling. The role includes producing photos and short videos for some stories. Local government bodies tackle a variety of issues, including affordable housing, public safety, energy, conservation, business development and zoning laws that impact how the community grows and evolves to accommodate the steady population influx to the Black Hills. At the state level, the Legislature is made up mostly of members of a bifurcated Republican Party that is ripe for storytelling. Nationally, we punch above our weight for a state of 1 million people - Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem hold positions of immense power in the federal government. People here want to know what they are doing. The Journal newsroom is made up of great journalists who work hard and enjoy working together to tell the stories of the people, places and events happening in the Black Hills. A bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field is preferred. New graduates are welcome to apply. Why Rapid City?
