Job Summary:
The Borough of Verona is seeking a highly experienced, ethical, and visionary law enforcement leader to serve as its next
Police Chief
. The ideal candidate will be committed to building community trust, leading a department with integrity, and fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and professionalism. Under the direction of the Mayor, the Police Chief will plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of the Police Department to preserve public peace, protect life and property, and enforce local, state, and federal laws.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide strategic leadership and overall management of the Police Department.
Develop and implement policies, procedures, and programs aligned with best practices in modern policing.
Foster strong community relationships and ensure transparency, accountability, and responsiveness in police operations.
Manage department budget, resources, personnel, and operational plans effectively and efficiently.
Recruit, train, and develop a high-performing, diverse, and community-focused police force.
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and departmental policies.
Respond to major incidents and serve as the lead public safety official in crisis situations.
Collaborate with other city departments, local agencies, schools, and community organizations.
Represent the department in public meetings, media engagements, and interagency partnerships.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 10+ years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, with at least 3 years in an executive level role.
All current training certification(s) and Act 120 certified.
Demonstrated commitment to community-oriented policing, equity, and inclusion.
Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
Knowledge of modern policing strategies, crime prevention, and data-driven policing practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors or Associates degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field (Masters degree is a plus).
Experience working with diverse populations and fostering community engagement.
