Assistant Professor or Instructor of Chemistry, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (full-time, non-Tenure Track, 9-month appointment; 3-year renewable term) May 12, 2025 Samford Universitys Howard College of Arts and Sciences invites individuals interested in serving in a Christian university environment to apply for an assistant professor or instructor position (chemistry) in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, beginning August 2025. This full-time, non-tenure-track position is a 9-month appointment; 3-year renewable term. Qualified candidates will hold a Ph.D. degree (Assistant Professor) or a Masters degree (Instructor) from an institutionally accredited (or equivalent) institution. College-level teaching experience is highly desirable. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in general and/or organic chemistry, with additional duties possible in another chemistry subdiscipline. The successful applicant will be expected to be a fully contributing member of the department. This includes working with departmental faculty to improve lecture and laboratory courses to best meet the needs of all students, to develop effective teaching practices that increase student learning and performance and that increase overall teaching quality, and to assist the department in efforts to increase student retention. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in various service activities in the department and college community. The department currently comprises eight full-time faculty members, offers majors in chemistry and biochemistry, and graduates about ten majors per year. Additionally, the department provides chemistry courses for majors across the campus, including pre-pharmacy, pre-health, and pre-nursing students.
