Office for Fiscal and Regulatory Analysis

Overall Responsibility:

This position will serve as a key member of AFPIs Office for Fiscal and Regulatory Analysis (OFRA) team. The Software Engineer will work directly with senior members of OFRAs technical team to develop and maintain the software powering a wide range of fiscal and regulatory analyses and tools. This position would be a good fit for those pursuing a career in web development, full-stack application management, or machine learning.

Reports to: Director of OFRA

Responsibilities and Duties (some but not necessarily all, depending on skill set):

• Develop applications and libraries to support data scientists and economists in modeling and policy forecasting;
• Build reactive frontends that meet modern performance and accessibility standards;
• Work with Python and Java Script to provide backends that are well-tested and secure;
• Communicate with users to fix issues and develop new features;
• Clearly champion AFPIs servant leadership culture;
• Operate with discretion in an environment that requires information security.

Consults with:

• The rest of the OFRA team;
• Other engineers and economists at AFPI;
• Support staff;
• Interns.

Type of Employment: Full-time

Qualifications (some but not necessarily all):

• Strong experience and familiarity with team-based software development and principles;
• Solid programming ability in Java Script, HTML, CSS, and Python;
• A good eye for web design and interface usability;
• Machine learning or statistics experience is a plus;
• A deep quantitative integrity and respect for the scientific process;
• A strong interest in pursuing interdisciplinary research;
• Excellent attention to detail;
• Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills (both oral and written);
• Ability to maintain productive, collaborative, and collegial relationships with staff and external stakeholders and uphold the public reputation of the organization;
• An entrepreneurial mindset that seeks out new opportunities to grow and advance the mission of AFPI.
