DescriptionJob Summary: The Physician Assistant’s primary responsibility is to promote and maintain health by providing safe and effective medical services under the supervision of a physician or surgeon. The PA provides diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services, as delegated by the supervising physician. As a member of the health care team, the PA takes medical histories, examines and treats patients, orders and interprets laboratory tests and x rays, and makes diagnoses. The PA can also treat minor injuries. The PA records progress notes, instructs and counsels patients, and orders or carries out therapy. The physician assistant may prescribe some medications based on the details of the collaborative agreement with the supervising physician. Other duties may include supervising technicians and assistants. QualificationsEducation Requirements and Other Requirements: Education Level: Graduate of an accredited physician assistant curriculum. Certification: Certification by passing of the Physician Assistant National Certification Exam (PANCE). Licensure: Licensure to practice in the State of Illinois; Controlled Substance License and DEA preferred. Experience Requirements: One year of experience in a health care setting is preferred. Other Requirements: Must be able to complete computer work. Working Conditions: Exposure Category I: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of them, are Category I tasks.
