Digital Producer - South Region

Gannett is seeking a dynamic audience producer to advance on- and off-platform strategies for its South region properties including sites in Tennessee, Mississippi and the Carolinas.

The ideal candidate will contribute to a culture of robust and sustainable audience growth in multiple ways, including writing stories, editing video and strategically producing social cards, social media posts, newsletters and identifying SEO best practices to advance our mission of increasing readership.

Candidates should be detail-oriented and strong collaborators. From planned enterprise to breaking news to water-cooler ideation sessions - or any other responsibilities as assigned - the producer will actively work to support newsrooms with complementary content on- and off-platform while upholding the highest journalistic standard in the industry.

In addition to work with newsrooms, this role will may also include work with Sports and niche publications. Night and weekend work will be required in this hourly role.

Responsibilities:

• Execute tactics to grow readership through writing, push alerts, strategic off-platform content, SEO-focused ideation and headlines.
• Monitor SEO trends and master engagement best practices for core audiences.
• Track daily progress to goals and be an active contributor for new content ideas or suggesting adjustments to existing content.
• Monitor conversations involving our properties, including on Reddit, message boards and social media.
• Active collaboration with a robust coverage team across the USA TODAY Network.
• Set daily and long-term plans.
• Exemplify digital and print best practices.
• Contribute to other needs and perform additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's or master's degree in communications, journalism or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Top-notch writing, editing and headline-writing skills.
• Proven experience in search engine optimization.
• Excellent news judgment.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Experience with advanced storytelling techniques on multiple platforms.
• Effective communicator; able to get along with diverse personalities.
• Able to multitask and excel under intense deadline pressure in a rapidly changing industry.
• Ability to act calmly and decisively in complex breaking news situations.
• Strong knowledge of AP style.
• Able to work early morning, night or weekend shifts.
