The job is straightforward: Prioritize actions by the new administration that affect readers served by the company’s 30 local newsrooms, while keeping accountability front and center. With a focus on the White House, this reporter will find unique and differentiated angles on the biggest developing stories in the country, going beyond what is available on the wires. This journalist will report on President Trump’s immigration agenda, his policies in the Americas, the consequences of the federal government downsizing, from local grants to FEMA assistance. This reporter will also look for stories about the president and key players inside and around his administration, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Attorney General Pam Bondi. This is a fast-moving beat crucial to connecting our local readers to the actions of an administration that is rapidly rewriting the rules of governing. Productivity is a key part of the role: You might not be asked to write daily, but the news cycle demands that we publish several stories a week.
