Applications can still be sent to civilservice@medinaoh.org NATURE OF WORK: The individual in this class performs repair and maintenance of all types of equipment used in municipal services, including heavy or light trucks, heavy equipment, machinery, automobiles and various other engine powered equipment, skilled and semi-skilled, at the journeyman mechanic level. May perform complex repair jobs or a variety of servicing tasks on mechanical equipment. Work performed is checked through inspection by the Equipment Maintenance Superintendent or through the performance of the equipment serviced. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be able to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions; must possess strong mechanical abilities; must have ability to use and care for a wide variety of tools and equipment used in servicing equipment; must have ability to keep records. Must possess valid CDL issued by State of Ohio w/airbrake endorsement, and must remain insurable under the City of Medina’s vehicle insurance plan. Must have experience with the operation and repair of air brake systems and hydraulic systems. NATURE OF EXAMINATION: The written examination is weighted at 100% and will test for knowledge of hydraulics, brake systems, welding, diesel engines, fuel systems, transmissions, refuse compactor trucks, general equipment maintenance, and shop safety practices. The passing grade is 70% or above. VETERANS PREFERENCE: Any veteran of the U. S. Armed Forces who has served on active duty for more than 180 consecutive days and has been honorably discharged and who passes the examination may receive additional credit, provided proof of honorable discharge (DD-214) is presented and verified prior to the date of the written examination. PROBATION: The probationary period shall be regarded as an integral part of the examination process and shall be used to closely observe the employee's work, to give the employee full opportunity to demonstrate successful performance on the job, and to remove any employee whose performance does not meet required work standards. No appointment shall be deemed final until the appointee has satisfactorily served the probationary period. All original appointments shall be for a probationary period, from first work day, of not less than six months. At the request of the appointing authority, the Commission may extend an employee's probationary period.
