A school librarian, also known as a school library media specialist, is responsible for managing a school library, providing students and staff with access to information resources, teaching information literacy skills, collaborating with teachers to integrate library resources into curriculum, and promoting a love of reading within the school community; essentially acting as a facilitator for students to access and effectively evaluate information across various formats, including print and digital resources.
Key responsibilities of a school librarian include: Collection development: Selecting, acquiring, and maintaining a diverse library collection appropriate for student needs and curriculum. Information literacy instruction: Teaching students how to research, evaluate information sources, cite sources properly, and use library databases effectively.
