Inspector I (Electrical) - Community DevelopmentJob Description PURPOSE SUMMARY. Perform building inspection to determine electrical soundness and compliance with specifications and permit services for new and remodeled construction, design, quality of materials, use, and occupancy and locations of structures and buildings in Doña Ana County in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and county ordinances. ESSENTIAL DUTIES.
III. ADDITIONAL DUTIES. Other duties may be assigned. IV. QUALIFICATIONS. A. Education. High School Diploma or GED equivalent. B. Experience. Applicant shall qualify by meeting the requirements for examination for electrical inspector licensure within three (3) months of date of hire. Applicant shall acknowledge and meet the requirements for general building inspector by the State of NM, C.I.D. and NMAC as follows.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. C. Education/Experience substitution. In accordance with County policy and the required experience listed under letter B. D. Licenses/Certifications. A valid driver's license is required and must maintain a satisfactory driving record with county policy. Must obtain and maintain NM CID Electrical Inspector certification within three (3) months and Residential and Commercial Electrical Inspector certifications from the International Code Council within one (1) year of hire date. Additional ICC certification(s) preferred. Additional NM CID certification(s) preferred. An ER-1 or EE-98 license issued by the State of New Mexico or a similar license from another state preferred. E. Other (e.g., post-offer medical exam, polygraph, background check, driver’s license record, etc.). Background and driving record check. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION: Must have knowledge of: Construction principles and practices of the construction industry in the electrical trades; applicable electrical codes and county ordinances applicable to residential and commercial construction; county policies, state federal and local building, zoning, housing and safety laws, rules, ordinances, codes, and regulations; principles of record keeping and records management; and standard procedures in a technical field that require extended training or experience to perform, such work as adapting equipment when this requires consideration of functioning characteristics of equipment. Must have skills to: Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with employees, officials, other agencies, and the general public; operate a personal computer and utilize a variety of business software; and follow and effectively communicate verbal and written instructions. Must have ability to: Interpret and apply statutes, rules, ordinances, codes and regulations; interpret adopted electrical codes and regulations, and compare them with construction in progress; plan, prioritize and schedule multiple tasks, projects and demands; assess, analyze, identify and recommend solutions to problems; interpret results of tests based on previous experience and observations rather than directly reading instruments or other measurers; and extract information from various sources when this requires considering the applicability of information and the characteristics and quality of the sources.
