What you'll do

This is a role for a junior RF engineer who is eager to contribute to a fast-paced team that is developing solutions to a growing market. We have a need for an individual to help the team assess the performance of system and sub-system components to be integrated in our multi-band phased array antenna design. The ideal candidate will participate in developing large projects throughout the entire program life cycle. You'll work closely with experienced RF engineers, System engineers, and the hardware and firmware teams, contributing to our future phased array products.


The day-to-day

You'll play a key role in the design and development of groundbreaking RF antenna systems. You'll design, simulate and optimize antenna elements for phased array at frequencies from Ku to Ka bands. Performing design trades on the radiator elements and assessing effects of manufacturing tolerances. Working with the system and hardware teams to design solutions. Defining test methodology and assessing performance of key components critical to antenna functionality. Developing and testing in an anechoic chamber the antenna and radome solutions. This role provides an opportunity to work with some of the most innovative antenna systems in the world.

Internship Program Details:

  • You will work onsite at a Viasat office location for the duration of your 12-13 week internship. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams.

  • Housing and relocation assistance are available to interns pending eligibility.

  • To ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and final graduation date. Intern compensation is non-negotiable.


What you'll need

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering
  • To be eligible for this position your final graduation date must fall between December 2025 and June 2026
  • Experience using electromagnetic simulation tools like HFSS or CST
  • Experience using RF simulation tools like ADS or PathWave System Design (SystemVue)
  • Experience using MATLAB
  • Proficient in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with RF measurement instrumentation
  • US citizenship is required for this role

Internship Dates:

  • You must be available for the full duration of the 12-13 week internship program. Note limited exceptions may be granted. Viasat offers two options based on semester and quarter academic calendars:

    • Cohort 1: May 20th, 2025 - August 15th, 2025

    • Cohort 2: June 17th, 2025 - September 12th, 2025


What will help you on the job

  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Being a self-motivated individual that can work well independently and on a team
  • RF background or interest in pursuing graduate engineering degree in RF or Electromagnetics
  • Proficiency with test equipment - oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.
  • Ability to work with different simulation tools

Salary range

$20.91 - $56.97 / hourly.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $25.96 - $67.07/ hourly
