Duties and Responsibilities:
- Investigates and resolve missing samples in the department.
- Respond to "code purple" and document findings.
- Trainer for the department Lab Assistants and completes training/competency checklists as appropriate.
- Resource person to the evening and night shifts for problem samples.
- Resolves pending list in coordination with Lab Assistants and Technologists.
- Liaison for the department and technical support.
- Monthly inventory of all supplies.
- Works independently with Purchasing and the stockroom to ensure that supplies are ordered and delivered in a timely manner.
- Adheres to all established laboratory safety requirements.
- Required to use (a) personal protective equipment, including latex gloves, (b) engineering control, and (c) work practice controls as directed by management.
- Keeps track of new Reagent lots/testing and entering data into EP Evaluator.
- Keeps track of QC new lots and required three (3) months validations.
- Sets up manual testing worksheets in the department.
- Maintains files for department records.
- Report problems/potential problems to the supervisor.
- Special projects and other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Assist with the department Quality Improvement Program and Greenbelt Projects.
- Orders Reagents and other Supplies needed in the department.
- Coordinates obtaining samples for Instrument Comparisons, reagent lot testing method comparisons, etc.
Required Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required Work Experience: 2-3 years of lab assistant experience Physical and Mental Requirements:
- The normal performance of duties may require lifting and carrying objects. Objects in the weight range of 1 to 10 pounds are lifted and carried frequently; objects in the weight range of 11 to 25 pounds are lifted and carried occasionally and objects in the weight range of 26 to 50 pounds are seldom lifted and carried. Objects exceeding 50 pounds are not to be lifted or carried without assistance.
- Performsrepetitive tasks with dominant hand.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods.
- Have good eye and hand coordination.
Knowledge:
- A working knowledge of reagent stability and storage.
- An awareness of the factors that influence test results.
Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Application (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong typing skills desirable.
- Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with management,co-workers,and clients.
- Other automation skillshelpful.
Other:
- Ability to work independently, employing research skills and flexibility.
- Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate with co-workers.
- Ability to deal with confidential information in a discreet manner.
- Broad knowledge of laboratory operations and procedures.
