The Special Collections is seeking (1) dedicated and experienced Archival Assistant (Processing Archivist)

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

The essential duties and responsibilities of the Archival Assistant (Processing Archivist) are the following:



  • Responsible for processing collections within the Southern Labor Archives and collections related to Johnny Mercer's archive.
  • Work with limited supervision and will process these collections according to national archival standards following departmental processes and protocols.
  • Responsible for creating detailed and accessible, finding aids, and describing the materials to accurately reflect the collection items using ArchivesSpace.
  • Responsible for accurately describing collections and creating metadata for primarily physical materials but may also process some born-digital materials as needed.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:



  • High school diploma or GED and three years of library or archive experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
  • Lead worker experience may be required for some positions.


Preferred Hiring Requirements:



  • Extensive knowledge on how to use ArchivesSpace.
  • Knowledge of archival standards and metadata.
  • Ability to apply DACS, and basic knowledge of preservation standards.
