Editor, Entertainment/Life Trending Team
Location: This role is remote and can be based anywhere in the US, except for Alaska and Hawaii.
Job Summary:
USA TODAY is seeking a dynamic and experienced Entertainment/Life Trending Editor to lead our expanding entertainment trending team. This role is perfect for someone passionate about entertainment news and trends, with a strong understanding of SEO best practices and audience engagement. The ideal candidate will be adept at creating compelling, and often fun,content that engages and grows our audiences.

Responsibilities:
- Leadership: Lead and manage a team of entertainment trending reporters, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality content production, as well as a new entertainment/lifestyle columnist.
- Content Strategy: Develop and implement content strategies that align with USA TODAY's goals and objectives. Ensure steady productivity around strategic topics and timely delivery of content. This is a fast-moving team and may include individual contributors publishing multiple stories daily.
- Authority Building: Establish USA TODAY as an authority in entertainment reporting by consistently delivering high-quality, original content that sets us apart from competitors. This includes live blogs, timely coverage of major entertainment events, and planning for maximum impact.
- SEO Optimization: Oversee the implementation of SEO best practices to ensure content ranks highly in search results. This includes keyword research, optimizing headlines and page titles, and matching keywords with searcher intent.
- Trend Monitoring: Monitor Google Trends and other tools to identify daily, trending, and tentpole content opportunities. Create content that answers searchers' questions and meets their needs. Seek opportunities to align AI with entertainment content where we would find success.
- Social Media Outreach: Support strategies to reach off-platform audiences on social media. Create content that is tailored for social media platforms to engage and grow our audience beyond our website.
- Audience Engagement: Use metrics and analytics tools like Parse.ly to monitor content performance and make data-driven decisions. Re-optimize content as needed to improve performance.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the SEO champions, Audience team and Content Strategy team to identify and capitalize on audience growth, engagement and revenue opportunities. Share insights and successes with the team to foster a culture of continuous improvement. Also, work closely with the USA Today Newsroom Lifestyle/Features team and Gannett'sVideo/Visual team.
- Voice of the Audience: Advocate for growth audiences in content and planning meetings, ensuring their needs and interests are represented.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in communications, journalism, marketing or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience: 7+years of experience in digital news publishing and management experience, with a focus on fast-paced entertainment reporting and/or editing.
- Skills: Strong writing and editing skills, proficiency in SEO and social media optimization, and the ability to analyze audience metrics.A keen interest in emerging digital tools and platforms is essential.
- Tools: Familiarity with content management systems and digital publishing tools. Experience with analytics tools such as Google Analytics or Parse.ly is a plus. A tech-savvy individual who can quickly adapt to new tools and technologies.
- Attributes: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, strong news judgment, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. A flexible and innovative thinker who is focused on finding creative solutions to challenges and continuously improving processes. Creativity and a proactive approach to problem-solving are highly valued.
- Language: Spanish language skills, a plus.

The annualized base salary for this role will range between $90,000 and $127,500. Variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, location, and union representation, if applicable.
