The Systems & Automation Support Specialist is responsible for providing advanced technical support to resolve complex issues escalated from the IT service center, as well as assisting in the management of the organization's on-prem and cloud-based infrastructure. This role will also work to improve business process within ITS and across the College through the development and enhancement of automation scripts and procedures to streamline and improve efficiency.

What will I do in this role? IT Service Center Escalations:
- Act as the second-tier escalation point for complex technical issues that cannot be resolved by the first-level IT Service Center team.
- Diagnose and resolve advanced software, hardware, and networking issues for desktops, servers, and applications.
- Assist with the configuration, installation, and troubleshooting of hardware (e.g., laptops, printers, peripherals) and software.
- Collaborate with senior IT staff and vendors to address more challenging issues when necessary.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to first-level support staff to improve their troubleshooting capabilities.
System Administration/Automation:
- Serve as a member of the User Experience, On-Prem and Cloud Infrastructure, and Academic Computing and Business Application Teams.
- Develop and maintain scripts (e.g., Power Shell, Python) to automate repetitive tasks such as system updates, backups, and user management.
- Manage user account lifecycle process (creation, maintenance, removal).
- Automate deployment processes for software, configurations, and campus devices using KACE, Intune and JAMF.
- Document troubleshooting steps, system configurations, and automation scripts for future reference and knowledge sharing.
- Continuously assess and improve existing systems and workflows by identifying opportunities for further automation and process optimization.
- Coordinate with Senior System Specialist, in maintaining new and existing servers, server-based applications, and services in a hybrid environment, (on prem and cloud).
- Coordinate with Senior System Specialist to install, configure and maintain server-based databases including MS SQL, MySQL and Maria DB.
- Assist Senior System Specialist in maintaining and enhancing the Ellucian Colleague systems, College data and information assets, and develop strategies for continuous improvements to overall systems, data workflows, and security.
- Promote education and use of information security standards as a primary objective of information technology solutions.
What are we looking for?
Educational Requirements:
- Associate degree or higher in Computer Science or related field or relevant job experience in information technology support/administration services.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in using and supporting various operating systems (Windows, Mac, or Linux) and information systems within a dynamic, user focused environment.
- Preferred experience using Microsoft Power Apps including Forms, Power Automate, Power BI, and Copilot Studio.
- Familiar with using Power Shell and Python scripting languages.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Documented success in learning and integrating new technologies.
- Awareness of hybrid server systems, database environments including SQL, and application environments.
- Demonstrated achievement in driving business process redesign through automation.
- Well-developed people and communication skills.
- Experience working independently and as part of a successful team.
