TOWN OF THURMONTCHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER The Town of Thurmont Maryland is looking for a strong financial professional to take on the responsibility of Chief Financial Officer. The Chief Financial Officer is a department head level position reporting to the Mayor and Commissioners and leads the finance functions for the Town. As a salaried, at-will leadership position, this position is appointed by the Mayor and Commissioners. In this role, the selected candidate will perform all finance duties, lead excellent auditing practices, perform accounting functions, tax calculations, and cash management processes with additional responsibility of leading the Utility Billing, Accounts Payable Office and Human Resource Professionals. Annually, the Chief Financial Officer will set the proposed departmental budget and participate in goal setting and visioning. The successful candidate will thrive working in an environment which strives to provide high quality services and works collaboratively with other stakeholders while optimizing the assets of the Town to best support our community.The ideal candidate is an individual possessing strong financial, analytical, and accounting skills, who is comfortable exercising independent judgement while making decisions and solving problems. Excellent written, verbal communication, and reporting skills are essential to present and discuss complex financial models. The position is directly responsible for functions of accounting, auditing, and annual town wide budget preparation. Other responsibilities include accounts payable review, tax distributions, state reporting, payroll review, financial analysis projects, oversee investments, cash management, special assessment calculations and estimation of revenues and expenditures for budgetary preparation.This position requires a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field; or seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. The selected candidate will have proven experience and knowledge in accounting principles, practices, and procedures related to municipal operations in Maryland. Competence in widely accepted accounting, office, and business software applications, and experience with Tyler Technologies ERP Pro 10 software is desired, as well as knowledge of budgeting for performance outcomes or objectives.The standard office hours are Monday through Friday 8: 00 a.m. to 4: 30 p.m. with some evening meetings required.
