JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Abington is seeking a Summer Camp Assistant Director to oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of its summer camp programs. This leadership role requires strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills to ensure a safe, engaging, and well-run camp experience for all participants.
This opening is a part-time, temporary role, starting on April 1st to September 1st.
Job Duties
  • Closely work with the Youth Program Director to oversee the day-to-day operations of the summer camp programs.
  • Assist Youth Program Director as needed
  • Ensure compliance with camp policies, safety regulations, and university guidelines.
  • Coordinate camp schedules, activities, and staffing assignments.
  • Support in training and supervising camp staff, including counselors, instructors, and administrative support.
  • Manage camper registration, attendance, and parent communications.
  • Work with the administrative team to handle logistics, paperwork, and supply management.
  • Provide ongoing support, mentorship, and performance feedback.
  • Facilitate staff meetings and training sessions to ensure alignment with campers
  • Must work collaboratively with the Youth Program Director, student counselors, and Continuing Education staff to create an inviting, enjoyable, and educational environment for students.
  • Implement and enforce safety procedures and emergency protocols.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for parents, handling concerns and inquiries.
  • Must be outgoing, work well with children, have strong customer service skills, and be a self-starter.
  • Training will be received on the registration system, Camp Doc.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Previous experience in camp administration, education, recreation, or a related field is preferred
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word
  • Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Employment with the University for this job will require successful completion of the Pennsylvania (PA) Publicly Available Clearances: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check, and the FBI Criminal History Background Check.
