Job Summary:

We are currently seeking a Principal Product System Architect who researches, specifies, architects, designs, validates, and verifies consumer and industrial satellite communications products.

Duties/Responsibilities:



  • Act as the primary technical architect of Globalstar's products, across product lines and engineering disciplines
  • Work alongside product managers to define product concept of operations, architecture, product requirements, and system requirements
  • Produce clear and concise documentation of product architecture and system design, allowing other engineering disciplines to design subsystems and components that will meet the overall product requirements
  • Work with and lead a team to accomplish integration of hardware and software components, verification, and validation of requirements and specifications
  • Identify, analyze, and present solutions for key technical issues and tradeoffs through the product design, integration, and verification stages
  • Work alongside other systems engineers to ensure product meets RF and protocol performance targets, and does not cause network issues



Skills and Competencies:



  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact clearly and concisely with all technical departments and levels of management
  • Expert-level ability in gathering, collating, analyzing, and presenting data to stakeholders to make decisions; must be able to identify and cut through swaths of data to present the key takeaways and tradeoffs
  • Able to produce clear and concise documents governing all aspects of a product, from architecture and block diagrams to key UML call flows, to allow other engineers to design subsystems and components that meet the Architect's vision
  • RF and link budget analysis, at component level to product and system level
  • Able to review designs from functional teams, ranging from schematic and layout in Altium to Solidworks CAD to UML diagrams
  • Skilled working with remote teams and design teams at other companies, such as ODMs and JDMs



Education, Experience, and Licenses/Certifications:



  • Bachelor's degree (BS) from four-year college or university in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field; Master's strongly preferred
  • 7 years industry experience; 10+ years strongly preferred
  • Experience as a product architect, system architect, system engineer, or system integration engineer; experience as a technical lead is required
  • Expert-level experience in at least one wireless/radio technology from among 5G, 4G, 802.11ad/ay, WiMAX, or proprietary satellite systems
  • Cradle-to-grave product development experience; must have worked with product managers to define initial product and system requirements, through to integration, verification, and validation
  • Experience with hardware architecture and integration; strongly prefer experience with at least one of FPGAs or SoCs from Xilinx/AMD, Altera/Intel, Qualcomm, NXP, MediaTek
  • Familiarity with test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, DMMs, oscilloscopes, protocol testers, channel emulators



Physical Requirements:



  • If not located local to Globalstar's office in Covington, Louisiana, willingness and ability to travel to Covington as needed (estimated at 25%)
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
