Summary:

The Director, Business and Corporate Development will be an integral part of our Business and Corporate Development team. They will serve as a partnering generalist, with duties that support building Pacira's portfolio of innovative non-opioid pain relief options, maximizing the value of existing assets, and executing on other corporate initiatives. Specific projects are likely to include deal and decision processes, financial modeling, data management, business case support, and negotiations.


Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by an individual assigned to this job. Other duties may be assigned.

* Create and maintain data room for existing assets or opportunities available for partnering, including creating asset summaries and collaborating with internal colleagues to ensure accuracy and relevance of information.
* Develop and manage internal and external-facing business processes for partnering, and then communicate, implement and report on the outcome of those processes.
* Analyze opportunities and business cases, with support and collaboration with colleagues in finance, portfolio, and clinical groups.
* Run deal processes from diligence to term sheet and final agreement documents, ensuring internal visibility, input, and alignment
* Provide well-considered recommendations in support of transactions, including clear communication of risks and appropriate management and mitigation initiatives
* Develop an understanding of Pacira's portfolio needs and business processes by building relationships with internal stakeholders - including in research, process development, clinical regulatory, marketing, portfolio, and finance
* Function as an ambassador for Pacira at external meetings, conferences, and seminars, to access new opportunities and build and expand external network
* Other activities supporting the Business and Corporate Development function


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

* MBA, JD, or an advanced degree in a discipline related to Business Development for biopharma (MS, MD, PhD)
* Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, with depth in a core area. Relevant experience may include finance or banking, management consulting, development team leadership, business development or alliance management
* Demonstrated ability to understand, analyze and communicate value, risk and opportunity, and to complete tasks in an ambiguous and rapidly changing environment
* Preferred background in pain management or related area (such as neurology, inflammation, or orthopedics)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Exceptional analytical and communication skills, including the ability to understand and, where necessary, to simplify complex topics
* Strong project management skills including the ability to organize people and information, to create a plan of action, to set priorities, meet deadlines and measure progress
* Excellent oral and written English communications skills, including demonstrated ability to present to senior leadership
* Solid financial and business acumen, including the ability to create valuation models and to understand market forces
* Demonstrated ability to understand risk, gating, and portfolio value over time
* Understanding of regulatory environment and drug development processes
* Experience in drafting term sheets and negotiating transactions, including in high-stakes and complex transactions, as evidenced by a deal sheet in the pharmaceutical or device industries
* Ability to travel up to 30%

Pay Transparency

The base pay range for this role in California is $188,000 per year to $259,000 per year. The range is what we reasonably expect to pay for this role. The range considers a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to: geographic markets, business or organizational needs, skill sets, experience, training, licensure, and certifications.
