SEMCO - Operations Technician I (Macomb)

Position Summary
SEMCO Energy is seeking an Operations Technician for our Macomb, MI team! Under general supervision, the Operations Technician I supports the Operations Department with a variety of field duties within the assigned geographic area.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Correctly complete locating requests meeting timeline requirements.
  • Complete proper documentation of locating requests.
  • Coordinate 3rd party pipeline crossing inspections.
  • Participate in the Damage Prevention Awareness Program.
  • Maintain knowledge of Public Act 174 (Miss Dig Underground Facility Damage Prevention and Safety Act).
  • Assist in other operational departments as required, including Inspection, Leak Survey, and Collections.
  • Assist in the maintenance of gas distribution systems.
  • Adhere to SEMCO's internal control procedures and financial processes.
  • Maintain excellent knowledge of current trends and developments in the field.
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment.

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

  • High School Diploma/GED required. College courses or vocational training in drafting, surveying, electrical circuits wiring, or other related fields preferred.
  • 2+ years of gas distribution experience required.
  • Valid State of Michigan Driver's License and eligible for company-provided vehicle insurance.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical & electrical principles preferred.
  • Must be capable of completing the Operator Qualification Program.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, along with strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere through effective interactions and communications with co-workers, customers, and leadership.
  • Working knowledge of various personal computer business software applications presently used by the Company. Ability to learn new systems or software packages as necessary.
  • Must prioritize a safe environment for co-workers, customers, and the public through adherence to established safety standards and timely reporting of potential hazards.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to Company policies and procedures related to the code of business ethics, compliance, responsible use of Company assets, and all applicable state and federal laws.

Working Conditions

This position is performed primarily in a field setting involving exposure to temperature, dust, noise, etc. This position requires the use of personal protective equipment. This position may be required to work in confined spaces, on ladders, and in adverse weather conditions. Duties involve driving, sitting, bending, stooping, walking, climbing, crawling, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, digging, operating heavy equipment, fine finger movement, and lifting objects to 50 lbs.

We offer a competitive hourly rate of $26.44 to $31.73 per hour for this position, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
