Part-Time Medicare Counselor (Up to 16 hours a week)

What You'll Be Doing
You will provide outreach and assistance to eligible Medicare beneficiaries to apply for benefit programs that help to lower the costs of Medicare premiums and deductibles.

Your Main Priorities
While additional responsibilities are likely to arise on the job, you will primarily:
* Works with the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), Senior Medicaid Patrol (SMP), and Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act for Beneficiary Outreach and Assistance Program (MIPPA) to aid Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers.
* Provides unbiased information to Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers about Medicare and related health insurance benefits.
* Assists clients in enrolling in or updating their Medicare Prescription Drug Plans (Part D) or Medicare Advantage Plans (Part C).
* Promotes awareness, knowledge, and visibility for the SHIP, SMP, and MIPPA programs.
* Engages and promotes community outreach; expands reach to increased number of Medicare beneficiaries through one-on-one counseling and outreach efforts.
* Completes all Office of Healthy Aging (OHA) and agency training.
* Completes and tracks data collection and creates quarterly reports.

Skills & Abilities
* High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree preferred.
* Minimum 6 months experience with Medicare and/or an elderly services program required.
* Experience with state databases preferred.
* Strong organizational, critical thinking and time-management skills.
* Basic computer skills required; knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
* Ability to communicate and effectively interact with a diverse population.
* Collaboration and teamwork.
* Must have a valid driver's license, auto insurance and auto registration.
* Must be able to authorize Child & Family to complete Motor Vehicle Record check.
* The ideal candidate will be required to meet all pre-employment requirements such as background checks and medical clearances.

Travel Requirements
Site location: Middletown
Statewide travel required.

Physical Requirements
Operational staff:
This position involves work in an office setting. Tasks include operating a computer for extended periods, communicating with colleagues, and occasional lifting of office/department materials up to 25lbs. The role also requires the ability to sit for extended periods, bending, reaching, hearing and vision.
