Position: Wound Ostomy Continent Nurse (WOCN) Department: Wound Care Schedule: 24 hours, Days POSITION SUMMARY: The Wound/Ostomy/Continent (WOC) Nurse provides direct patient care, consults and collaborates with other members of the health care team for patients with new and existing ostomies, wounds, fistulas, pressure ulcers, tubes and incontinence issues. The WOC coordinates treatment to provide comprehensive wound assessments and plan of care including goals, implementation of treatment, evaluation and outcomes for patients. The WOC Nurse is responsible for preoperative and postoperative education for patients with urinary and/or fecal diversion. The WOC nurse develops and implements evidence based clinical guidelines and/or resources for staff based on national standards. The WOC nurse coordinates and participates in the education of nursing and medical staff regarding wound management and the prevention of pressure ulcers, support surfaces, dressing selection and other therapies. The WOC leads the BMC Skin Committee and assures participation in the state and national prevalence studies and performance improvement of the organization. EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Baccalaureate degree in nursing required, Registration and current RN licensure in the state of MA in good standing required. Board Certification for Wound and Ostomy required. CPR certification required unless ACLS certified. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
EXPERIENCE: Prior experience caring for wound and ostomy patients required. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
