A Brief Overview
The Environmental Specialist provides environmental training and regulatory compliance oversight for Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) within the Hunt Military Communities Portfolio. The position will act as the chief advisor to the Director of Environmental and Safety and will be the site-level point of contact for environmental concerns. This role will closely collaborate with the Environmental Program Manager. This position will also assist local teams in vetting of new vendors, scopes of work, and estimates received.

What you will do



  • Assists with developing, coordinating, administering, and maintaining environmental program.
  • Assesses new developments and regulations in the environmental field within Texas which may impact project operations; assists management in the understanding OSHA, TDLR, and EPA/DOE regulations and standards to include guidance on compliance, inspections, and citations.
  • Assists managers and supervisors in identifying and evaluating hazardous conditions and practices primarily at JBSA and ensures corrective actions are implemented.
  • Assists managers, supervisors, and warehouse staff where available in collecting, consolidating, packaging, retaining, shipping, and treating of hazardous waste.
  • Conducts regulatory inspections such as mold inspections, LBP inspections, asbestos inspections, safety inspections of equipment, as applicable.
  • Collects and analyzes data and prepares required reports for environmental statistics. Audits processes to ensure they comply with standards and customer requirements consistent with established procedures.
  • Partners with the Safety Program Manager and the Environmental Program Manager with implementation of Safety and Environmental Plans and Policies
  • Assists with the development of environmental inspections, protocols, work plans, and vendor selection.
  • Provides guidance and Quality Control/Quality Assurance oversight and monitoring of environmental work, projects, or disputes.
  • Works with property leadership to review work orders to ensure proper documentation and execution of environmental issues.
  • Analyzes, reviews, and documents protocols, residents letters, inspection reports, etc.
  • Responds to inquiries and exchanges information with corporate or site level employees in the course of continuous compliance to accomplish job objectives.
  • Monitors all current information on regulations and requirements related to hazardous materials and agents.
  • Upholds all company policies, goals, and values.
  • Represents the company in a professional manner at all times, on and off the property.
  • Provides professional representation to command, housing, and other external parties.
  • Escalates property issues or any crises to appropriate parties.
  • Ensures all proper vendor certifications are maintained prior to the execution of RRP, abatement, mold remediation, pesticide application, etc.
  • Assists site leadership with contract compliance for vendors that may disturb environmental conditions as part of their assigned work, ie. LBP, ACM, Mold.


Qualifications



  • Associate's Degree Required
  • equivalent work experience in Environmental Health field Required
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Environmental Sciences for equivalent Preferred
  • 4-6 years Proven leadership experience in safety, health and environmental program management to include: Haz-Waste, Haz-COM, LBP, Mold and Asbestos. Experience in training teams and establishing effective EHS culture. Required
  • Strong ability to coordinate corrective actions to resolve potential hazardous situations.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize time.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with strong technical knowledge and service-oriented attitude.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Excel and MS Office.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail, work independently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Requires a detail orientated, independent thinker who can be a part of a team and demonstrates knowledge as well as the ability to motivate, delegate, and provide constructive feedback as appropriate to a team.
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, particularly the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, business partners and industry professionals.
  • OSHA 10 and 30-hours certification, OSHA 501 a plus, as well as professional certifications Preferred or Applicable state licensing for mold and asbestos Preferred
  • LBP RRP certified Required
