Provides assistance to the Principal Investigator and Study Team in coordinating research activities that may include conducting a variety of routine experiments with established methodologies, data collection and management, and other research activities as assigned.

Essential Functions
- Responsible for data collection, management, manipulation, analysis, and reporting.
- Study cohort management.
- Outreach communication with subjects, conducting mailings, follow-up on mailings, and obtaining necessary documents.
- Provides assistance on work related to epidemiological studies and other population-based research.

Experience:

New graduate with relevant course or project work.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with the study participants.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of clinical research protocols.
  • Knowledge of computer programs, databases, etc.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for subjects' rights and individual needs.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with coding (Examples: Python, REDCap, MATLAB, R)
  • Experience with image processing (Examples: FSL / SPM / FreeSurfer / Nilearn / 3DSlicer / AFNI / ANTs / Lead-DBS toolbox)
  • Experience/interest with neurologic/neuropsychiatric illness.

Working Conditions:

  • Office and clinic environment.
  • Hours may vary based on lab requirements.
  • Must be able to travel between hospital and research buildings carrying study documents and materials.
  • Must be able to physically hold a TMS coil (~5 lbs) for 40 minutes.


Working in the Center for Brain Circuit Therapeutics under the supervision of a Senior Research Assistant, Manager, or Principal Investigator and following established policies and procedures, provides assistance on clinical research studies. May be responsible for the following activities: recruiting and evaluating patients/subjects for studies; performing cognitive testing, scheduling appointments, assuring completion of visits and accurate data collection and entry, data processing, assisting/managing IRB submissions, interacting with regulatory personnel, administering transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and maintaining and updating data generated by the study.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides assistance on clinical research studies as per study guidelines and protocols.
  • Recruits and evaluates potential study patients. Per protocol instruction, conducts telephone interviews or schedules patient for study visit and screening. May be required to perform transcranial magnetic stimulation.
  • Interacts with patients/subjects with regard to study, including patient education, procedural instruction, follow-up. May serve as a liaison between patient and physician.
  • May have in-person interactions with patients.
  • Responsible for collecting data and maintaining patient information database for studies. May be required to input data, do minimum analyses and run various reports. Maintains patients records as part of record keeping function.
  • Responsible for mailing various study information or packets to study participants.
  • Answers any phone calls and inquiries regarding study protocol. Refers participants when appropriate to supervisor or clinical staff.
  • Monitors and sets up any needed equipment.
  • Manages IRB and DUA pipeline as requested.
  • Performs literature searches, as appropriate.
  • Assists PI or Research Manager with preparation for presentation and written published articles or grants.
  • Assists with training and orienting new staff or high school students.
  • Assists with brain image (MRI/PET/Etc) acquisition and image data processing, including construction and de-bugging of data analysis pipelines.
  • Maintains inventory and orders supplies when necessary.
  • All other duties, as assigned.
