Services are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis and are free of charge. Tutoring is provided by trained peer tutors in both small group and individual sessions. Tutors participate in training activities to hone specific skills to better assist students engage and understand the curriculum. Individual learning differences are acknowledged and valued at the CASA. Peer Natural Resource Management Tutors will assist students in improving academic achievement by: * Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment * Facilitating student learning by helping students understand their learning process and determine their academic needs * Meeting with students one-on-one (in person and virtually) on a regular basis to clarify natural resource course concepts and work on study skills * Providing appropriate small group tutoring to students * Supporting the development of an organized study plan for students assigned to them * Modeling metacognitive strategies * Serving as a model (academics, promptness, dedication) for students being tutored * Documenting tutorial objectives, activities, material needed, and assessment of the tutorial assistance. * Participating in all scheduled staff meetings, training program, and in-service education as designated by the staff * Planning and conducting discipline-specific workshops if needed * Other duties as assigned. Tutoring sessions should include, but not limited to the following: review of class material, discussion of the text, predict test questions and create study aids, and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Tutors are not expected to know everything about the subject for which they tutor. Availability for tutor training is required for employment.
